As on 26th August 2016, Sugarcane has been sown in an area of 45.55 lakh hectares that is down by more than eight percent from last year acreage of 49.60 lakh hectares. This year Sugarcane acreage is down by 8.8 percent from normal in season acreage of 49.96 lakh hectares. Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of Sugarcane followed by Maharashtra.
