According to the Ministry of Agriculture, sugarcane has been planted on 48.74 lakh hectares in India, marginally lower than 50.32 lakh ha in the same period a year ago. Delay in monsoon this year affected on the sugarcane area in the key producing states. Maharashtra, UP, Gujarat and Karnataka are major cane producing states in India.
