According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), 43 sugar mills in the country have already closed their operations, out of which 17 are in UP, 7 in Maharashtra and 11 in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Maharashtra sugar mills have produced 8.40 million tonnes of sugar, against 6.41 million tonnes produced till the same period last year.
