A greater share of Brazilian cane is expected to go to sugar in 2016-17, providing a boost to tightening global supplies, with prices more remunerative for the sweetener than for cane-derived ethanol. The weakness of Brazil's currency, the Real, against the Dollar had helped to enhance the attractiveness of the sugar production.
