As per senior government official, no immediate requirement to cut the import duty on sugar. Import duty on Sugar is currently rulling at 40%. Sugar prices have risen more than 10% in last one month due to sugarcane shortage for crushing. This year Maharashtra, one of the largest sugar producer has stopped crushing due to non-availability of sugarcane.
