Sesame Seed prices are currently up 11% since the beginning of the year 2016 on expectation of lower production this year but prices are still down 20% year on year basis. AS on 21st July 2016, Sesame has been sown in an area of 7.07 lakh hectares as compared to 9.24 lakh hectares at the same time last year. Normal area under Sesame is 16.18 lh in the country.
