As on 9th September 2016, Sesamum has been sown in an area of 15.24 lakh hectares that is down by more than 7% from last year acreage of 16.51 lakh hectares. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are the highest producer of Sesamum and acreage for the year 2016-17 stands at 3.45, 4.30, 3.80 and 1.33 lakh hectares for 2016-17.
