As on 5th August 2016, Sesamum has been sown in an area of 11.54 lh that is down by around 12% from last year acreage of 13.0 lh. Normal in season area is 18.24 lh in the country. Rajasthan, U.P., M.P., Gujarat and West Bengal are the highest producer of Sesamum and acreage for the year 2016-17 stands at 3.09, 3.84, 2.03, 0.76 and 0.01 lakh hectares for 2016-17.
