As on 23rd September 2016, Sesamum has been sown in an area of 15.75 lakh hectares that is down by 7% from last year acreage of 16.91 lakh hectares. This year acreage is down by more than 13% than the normal in season area of 18.24 lakh hectares in the country. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are the major producer.
