As on 19th August 2016, Sesamum has been sown in an area of 13.08 lh, down by 16% from last year acreage of 15.49 lakh hectares. Normal in season area is 18.24 lakh hectares in the country. Rajasthan, U.P., Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are the highest producer of Sesamum and acreage for the year 2016-17 stands at 3.31, 4.15, 2.53 and 1.00 lakh hectares for 2016-17.
