Basmati area is expected to increase in the current kharif season as farmers in Punjab and Haryana is likely to increase their basmati acreage around 50% compared to last year due to higher remuneration in last season. Last year, only 4.94 lakh hectares were cultivated in Punjab and 5.75 lakh hectares in Haryana.
