Thailand aims to produce 25 million tonnes (MT) of rice in 2016-2017, which is down from output of 27.06 MT a year earlier. Thailand, world's second biggest rice exporter after India, is holding back it’s stockpiles of about 13 MT of rice bought at higher-than-market prices under a previous government that spent billions of dollars to subsidise farmers.
