Rice is the major kharif cereal crop in India. According to the recent data released by the Agriculture Ministry, rice has been sown and transplanted across the states of the country on 361.46 lakh hectares against 357.47 lakh hectare. The total area sown under kharif crops as on September 4, 2015 has reached 998.67 lakh hectares.
