Paddy has been sown on 81.93 lakh ha vs 77.31 lakh ha covered at the same time last year. In Punjab, one of the main Rice growing states, this year farmers are more inclined towards Paddy rather tha other crops. It is reported that Cotton area has also been shifted towards paddy as farmers incurred heavy losses in cotton due to white fly attack.
