In a step to prevent distress sale of paddy in the state, Odisha government has set a tentative target of procuring 30 lakh tonnes of rice (equivalent to 44 lakh tonnes of Paddy) during the 2016/17 Kharif marketing season beginning November 1' 2016. As on 30th September, Paddy has been transplanted in an area of 36.35 lakh hectares in Odisha.
