In a bid to increase the outreach of minimum support price (MSP) operations among farmers, food ministry has decided to allow private players to purchase rice in some eastern states from the next marketing season. In eastern states the Food Corporation Of India does not have a robust procurement mechanism, which often forces farmers to go for distress sale.
