Mustard has been planted over 6.02 million hectares across the states of India, against 6.45 million hectares, in the corresponding period last year, according to recent updates of Farm Ministry. Higher than usual temperatures and delayed onset of the winter season have hurt mustard sowing in the key producing states of North India.
