The area sown under Maize as on August 12, 2016 is 81.29 lakh hectares up by more than 13% compared to 71.52 lakh hectares sown during the corresponding period of last year. This year Maize sowing is up by 10.59% from the normal in season area of 73.50 lakh hectares in the country. This year, Cotton area in most of the states has shifted towards Maize.
