South African maize farmers intend to plant 2.55 million hectares (mh) of the staple grain in the 2016 season, its lowest level since 2011 due to drought, according to the country's Crop Estimates Committee. This plantings next year will be 3.8 percent less than this year's 2.65 million hectares according to an official of the Crop Committee.
