The area sown under Maize as on September 2, 2016 is 83.22 lakh hectares up by more than 11.5% compared to 74.61 lakh hectares sown during the corresponding period of last year. This year Maize sowing is up by 13.22% from the normal in season area of 73.50 lh in the country. This year, Cotton area in most of the states has shifted towards Maize.
