The National Agricultural Research System (NARS) comprising Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and State Agricultural Universities (SAU) has developed flood tolerant jute crop varieties. These varieties are JRO 7835, JRO 878, JRC 321, JRC 7447, JRC 532, JRC-517 and Bidhan Pat-1. West Bengal is the major jute producing state.
