The Jute Commissioner's office has recommended a hike in raw jute minimum support price (MSP) by 18.5 per cent to Rs 3,200 per quintal for 2016-17 to encourage jute production. In 2015-16, minimum support price (MSP) was Rs 2,700, but the current market price is close to Rs 5,000 a quintal owing to a severe crisis in the crop.
