Farmers in Ivory Coast were reluctant to plant for the 2016-17 cotton season after last year's poor crop saddled them with debts, potentially endangering an expected rebound in production. Ivory Coast, producing around 400,000 tonnes each year before a 2002-2003 civil war split the country in two and halved production.
