Cotton is the major cash/fibre crop in India. This year sowing of cotton in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, which got delayed due to the late harvest of wheat, got extended this year by a couple of weeks. The Indian Government has procured 90 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) of cotton at the minimum support price (MSP).
