As per the reports received from States to Agriculture Ministry of India, country’s total cotton sown area in 2015-16 as on 7th August, stands at 105.68 lakh hectares as compared to 112.24 lakh hectares at this time last year. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are the major cotton producing states in India.
