As per government’s latest estimates, cotton is planted in 92.3 lakh hectares in the country, down by 9.4% against 101.9 lh last year as on 29 July. Cotton sowing progress increased by more than 6.2% on w-o-w basis due to good progress of monsoon rains. The Cotton Advisory Board has lowered crop production estimate by 12% to 338 lakh bales in 2015-16.
