In India, Kerala state tops in the area under coconut and it makes up some 37 per cent in area and 26 per cent in production. Incidences of the red palm weevil and eriophyid mites are observed on the coconut trees in Konkan region of the Maharashtra state. Konkan is the major coconut producing belt in the Maharashtra state.
