Madhya Pradesh, a major chickpea producer, has not yet imposed stockholding limits on chana traders even though prices are rising. Though India is the world's largest producer of pulses, the country has failed to meet its domestic demand. The imports of the pulses surged 5.79 million tonnes in 2015-16 fiscal from 4.58 million tonnes in the previous year.
