Madhya Pradesh, a major chickpea producer, has not yet imposed stockholding limits on chana traders even though prices of chana are rising. Though India is the world's largest producer of pulses, the country has failed to meet its domestic demand. The imports surged 5.79 million tonnes (MT) in 2015-16 fiscal from 4.58 MT in the previous year.
