This year Castor sowing is down by 24.37% to 5.74 lakh hectare versus 7.75 lakh hectare sown at the corresponding period last year. Major decrease is seen in Gujarat where area lags behind by 34% to 3.27 lakh hectare as compared to 5.05 lakh hectare sown at the same time. This year most of the castor area has shifted towards Pulses and other remunerative crops.
