Sweden aims to become world’s first fossil fuel free countryBy the year 2050, Sweden aims at becoming the first fossil fuel free nation. For its 2016 budget, the Swedish Government will invest about £354 million for the country to make its dream of becoming a fossil fuel free nation real.

The country is likely to invest in renewable energy and clean technology, as per the announcement made in the month of September. Substantial investments will also be made in clean transport, solar and wind power along with smart grids.

In the year 2014, Sweden generated electricity from low carbon and clean sources and the nation is looking forward to improving this. The budget for the investment will be raised by increasing taxes on diesel and petrol, the sale of coal mines as well as the closure of airports and nuclear plants.

The Scandinavian nation is taking serious measures towards Climate Change. Other neighbouring countries are also taking a step forward. In July, Denmark has already set a benchmark by producing 140 percent of electricity through wind power. Sweden will put forth this plan in the Paris Climate Talks scheduled to take place in December.

Sweden looks forward to the children growing up in a clean and toxin free environment. However, the question is how will a developed country like Sweden completely stop the use of fossil fuels? Only time will tell.
