NASA using high-resolution global satellite maps of air quality indicator has come up with a 100-second video showing rising air pollution trends in the last decade. The scientists of the US Space Agency tracked air pollution trends from the year 2005 to 2014.
The findings were based on satellites monitoring 195 cities around the Earth, showing pollution trends in various areas. While Nitrogen Dioxide concentrations decreased across the United States in the last ten years, China and India showed increased levels of air pollution.
As far as the South Asia region is concerned, the emission of the nitrogen dioxide pollutant has significantly increased during last ten years. This in turn has affected the air quality in the region, resulting in an increase in air pollution levels.
Europe and the United States are the largest emitters of Nitrogen Dioxide, however as NASA satellite map shows, there was a dramatic reduction between the years 2005 and 2014. Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is a common emission power plants, cars and industrial activity.
