Must Watch: Impact of climate change over three generations

December 14, 2015 4:07 PM |

We all believe that time heals each and every wound. But, one thing that has been deteriorating with time is change on a global scale.

We can now see glaciers melting, rivers drying up and severe droughts like never before. This video by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) highlights  the fact that innocent children are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Nevertheless, they are least responsible for this change. Here we can see a small family being impacted by the changing climate, over the course of three generations.

Globally, more than half a billion children are living in areas with extremely high flood occurrence. Simultaneously, about 160 million children reside in high drought-prone areas. The present scenario makes them vulnerable to severe weather conditions and limits their access to sanitation, education and other opportunities.

On a positive note, nearly 200 nations of the world took a historic step on December 12. The UK and other Governments agreed up on basic principles to address climate change and work towards protecting future generations from its devastating impacts. They are likely to voluntarily help in reducing the amount of Greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and methane) emitted by their respective countries.
