The Climate pact has been sealed in Paris with the approval of Nations including India, China and the United States. The quest to save humans from the devastating effects of global warming has now begun. Negotiators from around 200 countries have agreed to the set of goals that can help reduce the adverse impacts of Climate change. The final nod was given by the G77 bloc of 134 developing nations, including China and India.
As per the deal, the nations who have readily participated in the pact will make efforts to limit the rise in global temperatures to below 2 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels. To achieve the goal, nations will have to reach global peaking of greenhouse gas emissions as soon as it may be possible. After that, rapid reductions need to be taken.
However, emissions do not have to go to zero. But, they need to be small enough to be able to remove greenhouse gases successfully from the air. Also, nations need to deliver a new national pledge every five years to reduce emissions. Each pledge needs to be an up-to-date version of the last one, reflecting the highest possible ambition of a nation.
Countries also need to be well prepared for the adverse effects of Climate Change. Also, developed nations including the United States will provide financial resources for assisting developing countries in adaptation and mitigation. The developed countries will also give details of their climate donations every two years.
India and China have welcomed the pact with open arms. Indian Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that the new agreement is a new chapter of hope in the lives of the people residing on the planet.
