Stormy season has since commenced for the Atlantic Ocean. The first hurricane with topmost category, has barreled towards the Caribbean and smashed the Island of Carriacou in Grenada, as Cat IV hurricane. The hurricane has now intensified to the topmost category V and carry apocalyptic potential. The hurricane is packed with winds in excess of 260 kmh and still on course to further intensification. The storm is heading for Jamaica and is likely to make landfall on Wednesday, said so, the Hurricane Center at Miami.

Hurricane Beryl, even with the eyewall replacement cycle (ERC), carried huge risk of winds and surge before striking Grenada. The hurricane is having a sharp circular ‘eye’, indicative of its catastrophic potential.  It is likely to keep moving west-northwest, brushing across the Islands, both on the north and south of its track. Small mercy, that it may gradually weaken to the lower category- IV by tomorrow morning and further to Cat 3 & 2 over the subsequent 72 hours. Hurricanes, even of these categories carry devastating dimensions.

Hurricane Beryl has delayed the departure of Indian cricket team from Barbados. Team India after lifting the world cup title, was forced to camp in Barbados, as the airport was shut as precautionary measure to the hurricane Beryl.  The hurricane will strike the tip of Mexico, late on Thursday night and may possibly enter Gulf of Mexico in the subsequent 24-36 hours. Named storms are very uncommon in this area at this point if time. Having a Category-V hurricane, so early in the season may be an outlier.
