The Earth has been warming up to quite an extent for the longest time. In fact, out of the last 19 years, 18 have been the warmest ever recorded, which does sound like a big deal with the present buzz of ice melting around Antarctica and Greenland.
In fact, the last five years have been the warmest since records began, which let’s face it is the worst thing that could have happened to mankind. It also shows that the warming trend has been quite an accelerated one.
If the 21st century statistics are to be seen, as tweeted by Simon Donner, climate scientist, all the 20 coldest years on Earth were observed between 1884 and 1929, which is 90 years ago.
Coldest years in recorded (since 1880) history:

The average temperature of our beloved Earth has seen a rise by 1 degree Celsius since Industrial Revolution began wherein cold years became quite rare. Not just that, in the past decade, daily heat records have increased two times as compared to the cold ones, which is 21,461 record daily heat records as compared to just about 11,466 cold records.
Here is how the Earth looked in 1884
Greenhouse gases have been the culprit in warming the earth for at least a century now, however, there has been a massive increase in the instances for the past 40 years or so. Carbon Dioxide in the air were at their lowest, however, now, they are at their highest in the last 15 million years. The result being that the Earth is warmer than it was some 1,20,000 years ago.
