Whenever a weather system develops over Southwest Bay of Bengal or the Equatorial Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka receives hefty rainfall activity. A similar situation has been prevailing which is why Sri Lanka has been receiving moderate to heavy rains for the past 48 hours. A few areas, however, have been witnessing light rainfall.

In the last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Monday, Galle recorded rain to the tune of 76.4 mm, Batticaloa 32.9 mm, Puttalam 34.9 mm, Kandy 20.8 mm, Trincomalee 16.4 mm, Katunayake 11 mm of rain. In the similar time frame, Ratnapura, Puttuvil, and Jaffna witnessed light showers.
These rains can be attributed the trough which is extending from the Equatorial Indian Ocean to Southwest Bay of Bengal. In fact, northeasterly and easterly winds are blowing which are incurring moisture leading to rains.
As per Skymet Weather, rainfall activity will continue over the country for the next 24 to 48 hours. These rainy spells will be intense and will occur mostly during the afternoon hours. The most rain affected regions will be south and eastern parts of the Sri Lankan nation. However, other regions will also receive light showers.

As per weather, good rains are likely to occur until the next 48 hours. However, on and off light showers might continue in some parts thereafter as well. Hence, the weather is not likely to clear up completely.
The maximum temperatures over the eastern parts of the country will range between 29°C to 31°C. Meanwhile, the western parts will be warmer as the temperatures are likely to settle between 33°C and 34°C.
Therefore, the weather during the day will be warm and humid. In fact, the night will also be warm as the minimums will range between 22°C and 24°Cover Sri Lanka.
