The neighbouring nation of India, Sri Lanka has been witnessing a few rainy days for the past two days or so. While rainfall activity has been lashing many areas of Tamil Nadu, the intensity of rains has been higher over the neighbours, Sri Lanka. The coastal parts of the Sri Lankan nation in particular have been seeing good rains.

The last 24 hours were not very different as many cities in Sri Lanka recorded light to moderate rainfall activity. Not only this, heavy showers were seen over the coastal regions as well.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Pottuvil saw 87.9 mm of rains, Trincomalee 69 mm, Batticaloa 65.8 mm, Vavuniya 29.9 mm, Nuwara Eliya 29.8 mm, Mannar 27 mm, Anuradhapura 26 mm, Jaffna 21.2 mm, and Hambantota 8.8 mm.

These rainfall activities are attributed to the presence of the persisting low pressure which has been giving rains over the region since a long time now. The system has now weakened into a trough of low and lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast.

Now, as per weathermen, light to moderate showers will continue over some parts of Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours. The possibility of isolated heavy showers over southern districts in Coastal Sri Lanka cannot be ruled out.

However, rains will take a backseat over the nation as the weather system will move away after 24 hours.
