Good rains to continue over Sri Lanka

November 20, 2017 4:03 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The Sri Lankan nation has been witnessing good rains for the past few days. All thanks to the back to back weather systems which have been forming in the Bay of Bengal resulting in good rains over most parts of the country.

The last 24 hours were also not very different, and a few areas of Sri Lanka did record good spells. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Kurunegala 20 mm, Puttalam 11 mm, Katayunake 10 mm, Nuwara Eliya 10 mm, Colombo 5 mm, Hambantota 5 mm, Ratmalana 4 mm and Batticaloa 2 mm.

These rainfall activities can be attributed to a feeble cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast. Not only this, a trough is extending from this system up to Coastal Tamil Nadu across Sri Lanka.

Thus, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light to moderate rains with isolated heavy spells are expected to occur over some parts of Sri Lanka during the next two to three days. Most areas are expected to witness rains during the afternoon hours.

Heavy rains may occur over parts of Kaluthara, Galle and Matara. Not only this, some parts of western and central provinces may also see some showers during the morning hours.
