In Madhya Pradesh, the wheat crop was almost ready for harvest, hailstorm and heavy rains has shrunk the crop size by about 20 lakh tonnes, according to the State Government estimates. Wheat stocks in the Central pool stood at about 24.2 million tonnes as on February 1, 2014, more than twice the buffer and strategic reserve norms.
