The state of Telangana has been witnessing heatwave conditions last week. The city of Hyderabad reeled under intense hot weather conditions. However, rain gods did give some rain and thunderstorm activity over the state two days ago.
The Khammam region in particular, witnessed thunderstorms accompanied with strong winds. So much so that due to strong gales in the region, damage has been done to banana plantations.
As per reports, massive damage has been reported in several areas of Dammapeta and Aswaraopet mandals during the last two to three days. Due to this, banana growers are now worried.
As per sources, strong winds blowing in the villages of Peddagollagudem and adjoining regions have resulted in damage of banana crops which was said to have been spread on over 50 hectares. These areas are well-known for banana plantations in Dammapeta mandal.
High velocity winds did not spare other areas. In fact, unseasonal rainfall along with squally winds affected areas of Gummadipalli in Aswaraopet mandal on Saturday.
In the aforementioned area of Aswaraopet mandal, ready-to-harvest mangoes along with other fruits also observed some damage in vast tracts of fruit orchards. This region is also considered to be the horticulture hub of Telangana.
Presently, efforts are being made to assess the damage thathas been caused to the fruit crops in the above-mentioned areas.
As per weathermen, around April 27 and thereafter, some more thunderstorm activity is expected over the state of Telangana. Due to this, some more damage over these crops cannot be ruled out.
