Unseasonal rain in Andhra Pradesh during the last 48 hours has caused damage to maize crop in about 1703 hectares and more of the crop could be damaged as there are chances of further rain with hail in interiors of Andhra Pradesh including capital Hyderabad. Maize in the state is at grain maturation to harvesting stage and prevailing weather conditions are favourable for incidence of pink shoot borer.

The areas where crop damages have taken place are witnessing rain with strong winds for the last few days as a low pressure area has been persisting in central Peninsular region since the last week. The low pressure area currently runs from west Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu.

Weather in these parts have shown extreme hot conditions in places like Ramagundam and Nizamabad where temperatures have risen to 40 degrees but eastern parts of the state that are closer to the coast are witnessing below normal temperatures. Weather in Hyderabad will have rain with hail and conditions will be uneasy due to above normal temperatures and high humidity levels.
