Madhya Pradesh: Special Assembly session called to provide relief to farmers

November 5, 2015 1:12 PM |

MP FarmersIn order to provide relief to crisis hit farmers in Madhya Pradesh, the state government has called for a special Assembly session on Thursday. Both, the ruling party and the opposition have made good preparations to debate on the issue in the Assembly.

It is believed that the government in order to provide relief to drought hit farmers will try to get approval from the Assembly for slashing the budget allocation of 77 departments.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday said that his government will table a proposal worth 7,000 crore in the House to provide relief to farmers in the midst of agrarian crisis.

The Chief Minister further said that his party and the government are trying hard to make agriculture a profitable business in the state. In the process, his government is providing zero per cent interest loans to farmers, among other facilities.

Remarkably, Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the last 20 days has been working hard to gather support and facilities to provide relief to farmers. The Chief Minister is of the view that the farmers committing suicide due to poor or failed crops should first get relief before adopting modern ways of farming.

The effort has been lauded by opposition parties like the Congress. However, they are critical of the Chief Minister and say that the government had not been serious so far due to which several farmers in the state committed suicide in last 6 to 7 months.
