Hailstorm in Punjab, Haryana, West UP may damage wheat, black gram and mustard cropsRain in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh had been witnessing light rainfall activity. In fact, winter rains have been good for the state of Haryana as well as Punjab. Not only this, the recent spell of rains has also been beneficial to the crops.

However, now a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayan region around February 5. Due to this system, rains are likely over Punjab and Haryana until February 8. The intensity is expected to remain light on the first two days.

Thereafter, rains will become heavy in parts. Rainfall activity is likely to reduce and only scattered showers are expected then. Moreover, during this period there are also bright chances of hailstorm activities in some parts.

In fact, there is possibility of hailstorm activities in several parts as well during the same time frame.

Parts of Western Uttar Pradesh are also likely to see rainfall activities as well as hailstorm during this time period.

During the season farmers grow crops including black gram, wheat and mustard which make farmers wait for some rains which are in turn beneficial to crops. However, on February 6 and 7, strong winds along with hailstorm activity may cause damage to crops.

At present crops are in their flowering stage and the weather activity may cause crop lodging for crops including wheat, mustard and black gram. Due to crop lodging, either wheat will be destroyed, or they will not be of a certain quality that they can be exported.
