Farmers rejoice as Vidarbha records heavy rains

For rest of the country, rains have brought relief from scorching heat but for Vidarbha region of Maharashtra it has revived the lifeline of its people whose major source of income is agriculture.

This weather activity is of great significance as it will restore the moisture levels in soil, which will be beneficial for sowing of the Kharif crops.

Southwest Monsoon has arrived over Vidarbha on Sunday. As a precursor to this, the region had been witnessing moderate to heavy rains during the last three days.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Incessant rain was recorded in last 48 hours over most parts of the region such as Akola, Amravati, Buldhana and Chandrapur.

As per the latest forecast Monsoon rain will continue for another 48-72 hours over most parts, with heavy rain expected over isolated places.

Every year, Vidarbha region reports the highest number of farmers’ suicide as most of the agricultural land is largely rain dependent. The region usually does not witness such heavy downpour.
