New Delhi, Friday. August 17, With heavy rain expected at one or two places over Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha, the region is heading for increased rainfall activity during the next forty eight hours. Fairly widespread rainfall is expected over the entire region during this period. The rains would also increase over east Madhya Pradesh as well as east Uttar Pradesh in the next twenty four hours. The western Himalayan region of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh would also receive showers in the next twenty four hours.

Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha are expected to be lashed by showers as a low pressure area has developed over the north Bay of Bengal and is poised to penetrate inland. The rains could be heavy at one or two places over these regions during the next twenty four hours.

A trough extending from east Uttar Pradesh to the low pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal has formed. It is being fed by the moisture laden southeasterly winds. This trough is playing a significant role in bringing rain over east Madhya Pradesh, central and east Uttar Pradesh, adjoining areas of Bihar and Jharkhand. Light to moderate rain is expected over these places in the next twenty four hours.

The western end of the monsoon trough runs close to the foothills of the Himalayas. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and areas of Uttar Pradesh bordering Nepal will receive light to moderate rain during next one or two days.

Along the west coast, the seasonal offshore trough is extending from south Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast. The trough is feeble and unable to increase rainfall activities along the coast. However, there is a trough extending from Lakshadweep to Kerala coast exists and the moisture laden southwesterly winds are penetrating into coastal areas of Kerala through this trough. This would increase rainfall over Kerala and Lakshadweep. Moderate rain with heavy at one or two places is expected to continue over these places in the next twenty four hours.

The Southern Peninsula remains mostly dry. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu would continue with subdued rainfall activity. This would make the weather warm and humid. The rainfall activities over Rajasthan have reduced and mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over western Rajasthan.
