New Delhi, Monday,  August 13, The continuous rainfall phase over Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh is likely to stay for another twenty four to forty hours. After this, rain would reduce over these regions. Showers are also expected to remain intact along the west coast. Heavy to very heavy showers are expected at one or two places over coastal Karnataka in the next twenty four hours.

East and south Rajasthan, northeast Gujarat are expecting heavy to very heavy showers during the next twenty four hours as the low pressure area over northwest Rajasthan persists and has moved to east Rajasthan and adjoining areas of northwest Madhya Pradesh. Moderate rain will continue over the entire region during this period.

The rainfall over these places are also attributed to the monsoon trough which is passing through Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, center of the low pressure areas, Satna, Daltonganj, Bankura, canning and thence southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal. Monsoon trough is essentially a region of intensified monsoon winds.

The eastern end of this monsoon trough will bring rain in east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and Vidarbha region during the next twenty four hours. The southeasterly moisture laden winds originating from the Bay of Bengal will follow the monsoon trough and the areas south and north of this trough will garner rain during this period. A trough is also found extending from Sikkim to the Bay of Bengal, which will bring rain over West Bengal, Sikkim and northeastern states in the next twenty four hours.

The western end of the monsoon trough is interacting with a passing Western Disturbance positioned above Jammu and Kashmir so Punjab Haryana and north Rajasthan are expected to get light showers during the next twenty four hours.

Along the west coast, the intensity of rain is increasing as the offshore seasonal trough extending from south Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast is becoming powerful. Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted at one or two places over coastal Karnataka during the next twenty four hours. Moderate rain is expected at many places over Konkan, Goa, Kerala and Karnataka. In the Southern Peninsula, the weather remains dry over south Tamil Nadu as winds reaching here are devoid of moisture.
