New Delhi, Monday, September 17, East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas of Bihar, northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa would receive rain during the next twenty four hours. Rain would continue at these places excluding Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa and in the northeastern states during the next seventy two hours. The northwest and the western region along with the west coast would witness a significant reduction in rainfall activities during the next twenty four to forty eight hours.

The low pressure area over southeast Uttar Pradesh and northeast Madhya Pradesh is bringing rain over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas of Bihar, northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. The presence of the monsoon trough in the region is also supporting increased rainfall activities in the vicinity. Rains could be heavy at a few places over these areas during the next twenty four hours.

The monsoon trough is passing through Anupgarh, Churu, Dholpur, Varanasi, Balasore and thence southeastwards to the eastcentral Bay of Bengal. Monsoon trough is essentially a region of intensified monsoon winds.

The moist southeasterly winds are penetrating the Gangetic plains along the monsoon trough subsequently reaching up to the hilly areas in the northwest. The rains would continue over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next twenty four hours. Showers could be heavy at one two places over Uttarakhand, which has been hit by cloudburst during the last seventy two hours. The chances of cloudbursts still persist over the region during the next twenty four hours.

While in the northwestern plains over Punjab, north Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh would receive light showers at a few places but the rain would lessen after this period as there is no weather system present in the region. Rain will also decrease sharply over western Rajasthan, Gujarat and west Madhya Pradesh during the next twenty four hours.

Along the West coast, showers would remain light as the offshore seasonal trough has turned weak. The trough extends from Gujarat coast to Kerala coast. Along the east coast, due to the presence of a feeble trough from Andhra coast to Tamil Nadu coast rain would occur at a few places. Krishna and Kaveri Delta would receive moderate rain at one or two places. The rest of the Peninsular region would experience less rainfall leading to rise in the temperatures.
