August 16, 2012 5:20 PM |

New Delhi, Thursday, August 16, Showers are expected to receive a boost over Orissa and Chhattisgarh during next twenty four hours. An increase in rainfall activity is seen over north Rajasthan as well as Jammu & Kashmir during next twenty four hours but the current phase of rainfall over Rajasthan is expected to make a halt after this period.

Orissa along the east coast and Chhattisgarh are expected to be lashed by moderate rain as a cyclonic circulation is persisting over the north Bay of Bengal. Also, the eastern end of the monsoon trough is expected to dip a bit in the south to bring rain over Orissa and Chhattisgarh as it is being fed by the cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal.

The monsoon trough is passing through Ganganagar in Rajasthan, Gurgaon, Hardoi, Azamgarh, Dhanbad, Kolkata and thence southeastwards to the east central Bay of Bengal. Monsoon trough is essentially a region of intensified monsoon winds.

The western end of the monsoon trough is moving northwards and is likely to remain north of its normal position during the next twenty four to forty eight hours. Rain is expected over north Rajasthan during next twenty four hours as the erstwhile low pressure area is prevailing over it. The northward movement of the western end of the monsoon trough will bring moderate rain over Jammu & Kashmir while light rain is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and western Uttar Pradesh during next twenty four hours. The intensity of the rain would increase over these places after twenty four hours.

Along the west coast, the feeble seasonal offshore trough is extending from the south Konkan coast to Kerala coast. Moderate rain is expected over interior Karnataka and Kerala coast during the next twenty four hours. Light rainfall activity will continue as the moist southwesterly winds are prevailing along the coast. In southern Peninsula light rainfall activity over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu is expected to continue in the next twenty four hours but it fails to give any reprieve to people from warm and humid weather.
