Monsoon likely to withdraw from north west and central India

October 17, 2013 5:16 PM |

Prevalence of north westerly winds has resulted in complete withdrawal of south west monsoon from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh and also from most parts of Gujarat and west Madhya Pradesh.

Situation is becoming favourable for further withdrawal of monsoon from east Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand and parts of Maharashtra. Withdrawal is likely to complete from entire Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat in the next 48 hours. Retreat of monsoon will practically result in clear skies with marginal drop in temperatures and humidity.

Meanwhile, north east monsoon is beginning to set in parts of Bay of Bengal. At present, a feeble circulation has formed over south west Bay of Bengal. Winds would change to north easterly. These winds while blowing from north east will pick up moisture from Bay of Bengal and unleash it over west coast of south peninsula. But we have to wait for next few days to see the further withdrawal of monsoon from east India then only north east monsoon will set in.
